A short self-makeup class and a month-long professional programme are very different products, so their fees are too. Here is what actually decides the cost, so you can compare academies fairly.
1. Course length and depth
A 5-day self-makeup course teaches you to do your own face. A 30-day professional course teaches you to work on any face: different skin types, undertones, eye shapes and bridal styles. More days means more practical hours with a trainer, which is where most of the cost goes.
2. Practice on real models
Practising on mannequins or only on yourself is cheaper to run. Practice on real models with different skin types is what prepares you for clients. Ask every academy how many looks you will do on models, not just on classmates.
3. Products and kit

4. Who teaches you
Learning directly from a working makeup artist costs more than learning from an assistant, but you learn how real bookings work: timings, client handling, touch-ups and pricing.
